Wondering what the status of this is, on the white house website it says:

“President Obama signed a memorandum expanding federal benefits for the same-sex partners of Foreign Service and executive branch government employees.”

Which benefits are being extended exactly? Health insurance? (I hope!?)

On the OPM healthcare and insurance website under the question “are my family members covered it says, “Public Law 104-199, the Defense of Marriage Act, states ‘the word ‘marriage’ means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word ‘spouse’ refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife.'” (http://www.opm.gov/insure/federal_employ/index.asp?AnswerId=316)

Which is it? If my partner is able to be covered under my healthcare benefits, we would like to do so, and OPM should get that off their website. If OPM’s answer is correct then I feel like Obama is claiming credit for something that hasn’t actually happened…which benefits were they able to extend?

    Please give me an update,
    Thank you.
