2013 DOI LGBT Pride Month Celebration
Please save the date for a spectacular program on June 6th at 1:30 PM EST.
We have been working diligently to coordinate an LGBT Pride Month celebration this year despite the limitations imposed by the sequestration. Many folks have come together, volunteering services and facilities to make a program a possibility this year. The creativity and enthusiasm of trying to work in this constrained environment has actually resulted in one of the most amazing programs we’ve ever presented.
In collaboration with the Office of Personnel Management, the Department is presenting a program including the Secretary, the Acting Director of OPM, and Brendon Ayanbadejo — the nationally renowned former Baltimore Raven who has been so outspoken in the media lately about equal rights for LGBTAmericans! This is a first for an LGBT Pride progam – to have the Secretary participate and to have the Director of OPM. We are thrilled to have them speak at this year’s program. In addition, OPM scored a major coup in getting Mr. Ayanbadejo to speak during Pride Month, and we are so excited to be presenting a joint program with them to share in his presentation.
The program will be held in the Sidney R. Yates Auditorium of the Main Interior Building. We are strongly encouraging as many of you in the local area to attend as possible. We want a huge turnout for the Secretary and Mr. Ayanbadejo. We will also livestream the event, so all of you across the country will be able to watch the program live, as well. For those of you who are local, a meet and greet with Mr. Ayanbadejo is being planned for 1:00 PM in the auditorium, ahead of the program. Bring your autograph books!
The formal announcement is still working its way through production, but I will forward that to you all as soon as it is complete.
This is going to be an outstanding program, so please make plans to join us for the event of the year! Tell all your colleagues to join us as well!
